Joss Whedon's "The Avengers" and Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises," both comic book franchises, raked in a whopping $623 million and $448 million domestically this year. But what about the little films that barely dented the nation's vast movie market?
"Playback," a horror film starring Christian Slater, cost $7.5 million to make, but only pulled in a pathetic $264 after a brief showing in a single cinema. According to Movieline, "Playback" earned $252 on opening night and another $12 the rest of the week.
In the film, Slater stars as a cop on the hunt for an evil spirit possessing a small town's teenagers.
Curious about the kind of film so under-appreciated by theatergoers? "Playback" is now available on Netflix Instant. Who knows, maybe its "lowest grossing" status will give "Playback" the kind of cache that makes it a hate-watching hit.
