
A shooting took place Friday morning at an elementary school on Dickinson Drive in Newtown, Conn. The alleged gunman was originally identified as 24-year-old Ryan Lanza. But new information states that Adam Lanza is the deceased shooter.
According to an update from Connecticut police, 20 children were shot and killed -- 18 died at the school and another two died at the hospital. Seven adults died, including the shooter. Another person was found dead at a secondary location.

4:31pm: According to the New York Post and CBS News, the shooter's name is Adam Lanza, 20, originally ID'd as Ryan. Lanza targeted his mother's classroom at Sandy Hook and used a .223-caliber assault rifle and two handguns.
4:03pm: CNN, CBS unsure that the shooter's name is Ryan Lanza, as originally reported. Shooter could have been carrying his brother's ID.
President Barack Obama got emotional in a televised statement to the nation, saying that "As a country, we have been through this too many times."
In honor of the victims, Obama earlier released this proclamation ordering flags to be lowered to half-staff.

As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on December 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, December 18, 2012. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were being escorted away from the school by their teachers. Some students were still in the school at 10:30 a.m., parents said.
According to the Newtown Bee, all Newtown schools are on lockdown.
