Days before the November election, Obama aide David Axelrod told MSNBC host Joe Scarborough that he would shave his mustache if the president lost Minnesota, Michigan or Pennsylvania. Axelrod won the bet, but promised to shave it anyway if Scarborough could raise 1$ million for epilepsy research (his daughter has the disease).

With a little bipartisan help from Barack Obama, Donald Trump, George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Carole King and Mark Cuban, Scarborough met his challenge and sat Axelrod down for a good old-fashioned grooming.

"We're cutting it off because there are people who've lost a lot more than a mustache to epilepsy," Axelrod explained on "Morning Joe" this morning, flanked by Scarborough, co-host Mika Brzezinski, his wife Susan and a professional barber.

"I've been staring at it for 40 years ... I'm very attached to it," Axelrod said with palpable nervousness. "I was up all night, to be honest with you. It’s a little unsettling."

"It took David's mustache to bring Donald Trump and President Obama together," Scarborough quipped.

The "Today" show tweeted this pic of the final result. Very dashing, Mr. Axelrod.
