President Obama and his family were on hand to watch Neil Patrick Harris host the 90th annual lighting of the National Christmas tree at the White House.

Other performers included Colbie Caillat, Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, The Fray, Jason Mraz, American Idol winner Phillip Philliips and James Taylor.

The first Christmas tree lighting ceremony was in 1923, when President Calvin Coolidge lit a 48-foot fir, joined by a performance of a local choir and a quartet from the U.S. Marine Band.
