Dunkin' Donuts makes the best cup o' joe in America, at least according to Dunkin' Donuts.

The US Patent Office disagrees: the Canton, Mass.-based coffee chain was rejected by the Patent and Trademark Office it tried to file for exclusive rights to the phrase "Best Coffee in America," the Boston Globe reported.

According to the Globe, Dunkin' Donuts was turned down because its slogan was "merely laudatory and descriptive," and the "slogan is nothing more than a claim of superiority."

Dunkin' may have had a slight claim to the title--it won top marks in an AOL.com poll in 2007, according to its website. But Starbucks could just as easily contest Dunkin's crown, with three consecutive years of Zagat poll victories under its belt.

Here are 12 more superlative slogans for popular products.

1. Samuel Adams: "The Best Beer in America"

Similar to Dunkin' Donuts, The Boston Beer Company, which makes Samuel Adams, was rejected in its claim as "The Best Beer in America."

2. Baltimore: "The Greatest City in America"

3. Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus: "The Greatest Show on Earth"

4. Sioux Falls: "The Best Little City in America"

5. Ford: "The Best Built Cars in America"

6. Peugeot: "The Best Kept Automotive Secret in America"

7. Toyota: "The Best Built Cars in the World"

8. Carlsberg: "Carlsberg. Probably the Best Beer in the World"

9. The Steak Escape: "America's Favorite Cheesesteak"

10. Hershey's: "The Great American Chocolate Bar"

11. British Airways: "The World's Favourite Airline"

12. Daytona 500: "The Great American Race"
