What your favorite books say about your politics

The next time you're browsing the popular picks aisle at Borders (or clicking around on Amazon), the book you take home may say more about you than just your preference for paperback romances or historical non-fictions.

The latest infographics by Engage, using data gathered from Facebook via the Trendsetter app, parses popular book choices and compares them with political leanings.

Among the most highly engaged voters on either side of the spectrum Noam Chomsky's Failed States (liberal) and Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged (conservative) are the most popular.

David Sedaris's When You Are Engulfed in Flames and Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas are popular with left-leaning users, whereas the Bible and C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia series are popular with the right. J.K. Rowling's beloved Harry Potter books are firmly in Obama's column.

It's become increasingly obvious that a stratified electorate is, in part, encouraged by the numerous sources available to seek out only the news coverage that fits within an already-established worldview. The data uncovered by Trendsetter lays it out in stark terms.

The high-turnout, highly partisan outlets are, unsurprisingly The Nation and Think Progress for the left, and FOX News and the Drudge Report on the right. MSNBC comes in at a fairly moderate +19 percent on the Obama side, while National Journal pulls in a +25 percent Romney audience.

CBS News is the lone organization straddling the middle of the spectrum exactly.
