Sean Penn, Kid Rock team up for wacky unity PSA, 'Americans'

What happens when Kid Rock and Sean Penn, two men with wildly different political views, show up in the same bar?

Kid Rock, a Mitt Romney supporter, enlisted the help of Sean Penn, one of Hollywood's most prominent liberal voices, for a public service announcement that challenges the vitriolic stereotyping and name-calling that marks modern-day political rhetoric.

In a drawn-out conversation, Rock and Penn trade a barrage of below-the-belt insults ("granola-crat," "neanderthal'") after meeting up in the same bar, with each man characterizing the other by their political stereotypes. Rock plays a NASCAR-loving, overall-wearing redneck while Penn is an effete, wine-drinking bleeding heart.

But the two men see the error of their ways when a news story reports the deaths of American troops in Afghanistan. Inspired by their remembered patriotism, Kid Rock and Penn take off to experience all that America has to offer. Together, they buy a Prius, protest, drink, attend gay weddings, exchange gifts and build American flag sand sculptures.

Directed by Jameson Stafford and posted to Kid Rock's YouTube channel, the 11-minute long video's description says it aims to "tear down the one-dimensional political stereotypes portrayed by the media by confronting them head on."
