Chris Hardwick's rapidly expanding Nerdist empire now includes Ben Folds Five music videos, television specials, bowling competitions, film studio contracts and cooking shows, but that doesn't stop them from getting a little excited when an A-list celebrity stops by.

In a creative ploy to get Tom Hanks to appear on the Nerdist Podcast, founder and host Hardwick sent him a vintage typewriter. Then the Oscar-winning actor came up with a hilarious response, complete with old school typos.

"I sent Tom Hanks a 1934 Smith Corona typewriter with a typed invitation to come on my podcast. This was his response," wrote Hardwick in a recent Reddit post, linking to the above image of a typewritten letter on Playtone stationary.

"Just who do you think you are to try to briibe [sic] me into an apperance [sic] on your 'thing' with this gift of the most fantastic Corono Silent typewriter make in 1934?" Hanks wrote.

It worked. Click here to listen to Hanks' chat with Hardwick and co-hosts Matt Mira and Jonah Ray about said typewriter, show business, space, "The Brady Bunch," Tom Selleck, sports, and now-famous actors to appear in "Band of Brothers."

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson -- who appeared on the podcast last year -- wondered on Twitter why Hanks got preferential treatment for his services.
