It's amazing that James Franco -- short story writer, poet, theater director, PhD candidate, actor and lackluster Oscars host -- gets anything done at all. But he's managed to find enough time to form a Motown-inspired band, Daddy, with college friend and musician Tim O'Keefe.

"I'll tell you this: it's always weird to talk about a new thing," Franco told Rolling Stone. "I know I do a lot of things. I'm very aware of that. I'm sure there are a lot of skeptical people, hearing about me doing music .

Daddy recorded their debut EP, "MotorCity," in Detroit while the multitasking actor worked on his upcoming flick "Oz: The Great and Powerful." Slated to drop this Tuesday, "MotorCity's" first single is the nostalgic, spoken-word track "Love in the Old Days." (It reminds Stereogum of 1999's "Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen.")

Rolling Stone describes the song's music video as "an Instagram kaleidoscope of frolicking summer girls," which we can only imagine describes Franco's entire life.

Franco's co-stars in the upcoming movie "Spring Breakers" -- Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine -- appear in washed-out Polaroid form on the album cover.

According to Daddy's press release, Franco and O'Keefe hope to take the band in many creative directions:

"The motivation behind Daddy is to push beyond the sonic space of music into the surrounding ecology. Daddy investigates the territories of film/video, installation, and performance while simultaneously exploring the connections that form between them."

Franco has previously collaborated with performance artist Kalup Linzy for a dance EP that featured the following single "Rising."
