Just three months before the first installment of the film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit hits theaters, a new trailer has hit the the Internet.

The new two-and-a-half minute spot for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, below, is more plot-heavy than the first trailer which first popped up last December.

Showcasing director Peter Jackson's now trademark sumptuous cinematography over sweeping New Zealand landscapes and cozy interiors, the trailer sets up the primary plot--the journey, and how Bilbo Baggins comes to undertake such a journey--for the coming three-part franchise.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey reintroduces faces familiar from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, including Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel and Hugo Weaving as Elrond, and the voice of Andy Serkis as Gollum. A cast of new characters includes Richard Armitage as the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield and Martin Freeman as the titular hobbit, Bilbo.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens in theaters December 14, 2012. Part two, called {The Desolation of Smaug} will premiere on December 13, 2013, and part three, "There and Back Again," on July 14, 2014.

The first trailer, which debuted last December:
