In "Greetings from Tim Buckley," Gossip Girl heartthrob Penn Badgley plays the late American singer Jeff Buckley, who drowned in 1997 at the age of 30.
Badgley co-stars with Imogen Poots, in this quiet-looking, indie romance about the days before Buckley attends a tribute concert for his famous father Tim Buckley.
The film, which recently debuted at the Toronto Film Festival, still needs a distributor, so there's no release date yet.
In an interview with Vulture, Badgley described his approach to playing Buckley:
I would meditate on words like "feline" and "feminine," because he's like a feral cat. What made him so beautiful is that he was a man, but he was so feminine, too. He was gentle, but he also had such rage. I had to take all of his energy in.
A live performance of Badgley singing Buckley's "Lilac Wine" hit the web in August.
