"I'm a Republican voting for Mitt Romney/you lazy b****s are f****ing up the economy," Nicki Minaj rapped on Lil' Wayne's Dedication 4 mixtape, raising both eyebrows and questions.
Listen to the track, "Mercy," below.
Nicki Minaj, voting for Mitt Romney? Could it be?
President Obama certainly didn't think so, and in an interview on an Orlando radio station, said he doubted she was speaking as herself in the lyric.
Monday afternoon, Minaj responded to Obama's comments on Twitter.
Ha! Thank you for understanding my creative humor & sarcasm Mr. President, the smart ones always do... *sends love & support* @barackobama— Nicki Minaj (@NICKIMINAJ) September 10, 2012
Minaj gave us plenty of reason to question whether or not she was offering up a real endorsement for the Republican nominee. She is an unregistered voter, not Republican, so the rest of the lyric doesn't check out as coming from the real Nicki Minaj.
President Obama, in an interview Monday on Orlando radio station Power 95.3, cast doubt on the veracity of the endorsement.
Listen to the clip from Obama's interview below.
"I'm not sure that's absolutely what happened," the president said."I think she had a song on there, a little rap that said that. But she likes to play different characters. So I don't know what's going on there."
