Beer has taken on something of an unexpected starring role in the Obama reelect campaign strategy.

Sign the petition to release the White House Honey Ale recipe

After buying beers for Iowans at the State Fair earlier this month in Des Moines, to cheers of "four more beers," President Obama gave away a bottle of home-brewed beer--the White House Honey Ale--to a supporter in a Knoxville coffee shop.

Per MSNBC:

While it was the first time the branded beer grabbed wide attention from the press corps on the campaign trail, a White House official said the president and first lady have made a habit of occasionally traveling with bottles of the beer made at a small brewery at the White House.

The beer has also been served at several White House events, including the Super Bowl party this year and a visit with Medal of Honor awardee Dakota Meyer last September.

An official confirmed that costs of both equipment and brewing the beer are paid for personally by the Obamas. The honey does, however, come from the bee hives in Michelle Obama's South Lawn garden.

Beer enthusiasts, alerted to the magical brew's existence, have been clamoring for the recipes. One even filed an official petition, along with a Freedom of Information Act request, on the White House's "We the People" site. All petitions receiving at least 25,000 signatures on We the People get a review and official response from the administration.

Following in the footsteps of great men like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin, Barack Obama has reportedly been enjoying the rewards of home brewed beer. Recent reports from news outlets like the Washington Post (August 15th, 2012) have stated that Obama has been drinking a White House home brew Honey Ale while on the campaign trail. In keeping with the brewing traditions of the founding fathers, homebrewers across America call on the Obama Administration to release the recipe for the White House home brew so that it may be enjoyed by all.

Now, after some hedging, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney has tweeted that they will indeed release the Honey Ale recipe if it reaches the 25,000 signature threshold.

The White House also makes a honey blonde and honey porter.

Rejoice! And sign the petition
