And this week's controversial cover image is...

As if in competition with Time Magazine's much-discussed "attachment parenting" cover story, Newsweek has Tweeted its latest cover, an image of a President Obama with a rainbow halo hovering over his head.

In the story, gay blogger Andrew Sullivan heralds Obama as the nation's "first gay president," in the wake of his recent "evolution" on the issue of same sex marriage.

Sullivan argues that Obama's story mirrors the experience of gay Americans:

"Barack Obama had to come out of a different closet. He had to discover his black identity and then reconcile it with his white family, just as gays discover their homosexual identity and then have to reconcile it with their heterosexual family."
