The 10,258 U.S. participants in a Feb. 9-12 Zogby interactive poll (margin of error 1 percentage point) looking at healthcare issues were asked how often and how long they exercise. The results suggest the United States is a relatively active nation.
While 16.2 percent of those asked said they never exercise, 81 percent said they did at least once a week. The most popular response was "two or three times a week," which drew 29.3 percent. Some 20.6 percent said "more than three times a week but not daily" and 11.9 percent said they exercise "daily." Some 19.2 percent said they exercise once a week.
The plurality of participants (40.7 percent) said their exercise sessions were 31-45 minutes long and 27.2 percent said they exercised less than 30 minutes at a time. Some 20.5 percent said their regimes lasted 46-60 minutes and 10.9 percent exercised more than an hour at a time.
About a quarter -- 27.3 percent -- of those asked said they belonged to a health club, gym or other fitness program.
