CHICAGO, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Lisa Fink wants to be treated like any other woman getting a divorce, but, that's not likely because Lisa Fink was born a man.
Fink, 49, is fighting her husband, Dr. Robert Fink, a Chicago orthopedic surgeon, to get money, property and other benefits she says she deserves if the two split.
But, the doctor, also 49, is trying to get their 1986 marriage license revoked, claiming the wedding was a "sham" because Lisa is and always has been a man, the Chicago Sun-Times said. Illinois does not recognize same-sex unions.
Lisa Fink's attorney, Todd A. Walters, argues that though his client was born a man, she is very much a woman, having undergone surgery before and after the marriage to remove male genitalia and add female genitalia.
Court records showed that Lisa was Edward Baldenegro when she and Robert Fink met and that he helped in the surgical transformation.
