The Chernobyl disaster: 30 years on (27 images)

On April 26, 1986, reactor No. 4 at the massive Chernobyl nuclear plant suffered a catastrophic nuclear accident, causing steam explosions that sent a radioactive cloud more than 1,000 miles to Scandinavia.
