ZHONGWEI CITY , China, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- A Chinese former mayor received a 13-year prison sentence for embezzlement and bribery, while a bank executive will be tried for similar crimes.

The announcements come in the midst of a crackdown on government corruption, ordered by Chinese President Xi Jinping. High-level government officials have been imprisoned since the campaign began in December 2012, and the Communist Party of China, led by Xi, said 154 breaches of "anti-bureaucracy and formalism guidelines" have been identified.

Liu Zhonghu, former mayor of Zhongwei City, a northern Chinese city of 1.04 million people, was convicted of embezzlement and bribery by the local court, accused of taking bribes of over 1.1 million yuan ($170,000). Tao Liming, former president of China's Postal Savings Bank, and several of his business colleagues, will be prosecuted for bribe taking, embezzlement and misappropriation of funds, the Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua reported Wednesday.

Investigations into the China business dealings of GlaxoSmithKline PLC, Microsoft Corp., Accenture PLC, Audi AG and Chrysler have also begun.
