GAZA, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- In a deal brokered by Egyptian officials, Israelis and Palestinian factions agreed to a new 72-hour cease-fire to begin at midnight Sunday, senior Israeli officials said.

Palestinian groups agreed to the three-day truce Sunday evening and less than an hour later, Israel accepted the proposal, Israeli news agency Haaretz reported.

The deal is set to begin midnight Sunday to open the door for an Israeli delegation to travel to Egypt for negotiations for a longer-lasting agreement. Israel said it wouldn't negotiate while still under fire.

The arrangement comes two days after a 72-hour cease-fire between Hamas and Israel expired.

Meanwhile, Palestinian health official Ashraf al-Kidra said an Israeli attack Saturday that destroyed a mosque in Gaza was responsible for the death of senior Hamas official Moaaz Zaid.
