Dutch couple released by Yemeni kidnappers

The couple were kidnapped six months ago.

Dec. 10 (UPI) --A Dutch couple kidnapped in Yemen's capital Sanaa six months ago have been freed state news agency Saba said on Tuesday.

"Dutch journalist Judith Spiegel and her partner Boudewijn Berendsen, abducted since June 8 have been freed," Saba said quoting a security official.

The Dutch ambassador to Yemen Jeroen Verheul wrote on Twitter: "Happy to confirm that Judith and Boudewijn have been released safe and sound."

Foreigners are frequently kidnapped in Yemen by al-Qaida or tribesmen requesting ransoms. Most of the kidnapped have been freed unharmed.
