[VIDEO] Phil Mickelson attempts 'Happy Gilmore' shot at Scottish Open

By DANIELLE HAYNES, UPI.com   |   July 14, 2013 at 7:25 PM

Phil Mickelson may have just won the Scottish Open, but he was put to shame when he and about a dozen other pro golfers tried their hand at the "Happy Gilmore" shot.

The players at the Scottish Open took a break from competition to have a few laughs and see who was most successful at the trick shot. The "Happy Gilmore" shot is named after the running tee-shot swing Adam Sandler's character perfected in the film.

Padraig Harrington had the best "Happy Gilmore" drive at 328 yards, EuropeanTour.com, which filmed the exercise, reported.

Mickelson, who has a left-hand swing, attempted the trick shot with a right-handed club and came up embarrassed. His ball nearly hit a cameraman.

"You had that coming," he joked with the cameraman.

Mickelson ended winning the Scottish Open Sunday, his first win in Europe in 20 years.
