Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Russian authorities arrested a Norwegian man, a former border inspector, for accepting classified documents, a Russian court official announced Tuesday.

Agents with Russia's Federal Security Service arrested Frode Berg, 62, in Moscow, Lefortovo District Court spokeswoman Yekaterina Krasnova told Russia's Tass news agency. Investigators said a Russian national, Alexey Zhitnyuk, gave Berg documents about the Russian navy.

Zhitnyuk was arrested in November and has been accused of high treason.

Krasnova said Berg would be detained until Feb. 5 on espionage charges.

Norway's Foreign Ministry said it had been in contact with a citizen in Russia, but did not confirm the person's identity. Berg's family said they last had contact with him two weeks ago.
