Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos now world's second-richest person

March 30 (UPI) -- Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has surpassed Berkshire Hathaway leader Warren Buffet to become the world's second-richest person with a net worth of $75.6 billion.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index shows Bezos, 53, increased his fortune by $1.49 billion after Amazon.com Inc. stocks rose $18.32 on Wednesday, a day after the company announced it planned to buy Souq.com, an online retailer based in Dubai.

Bezos now has about $700 million more than Buffett, who is valued at $74.9 billion, and $1.4 billion more than Amancio Ortega, the Spanish business tycoon who is valued at $74.2 billion who founded the Inditex multinational clothing company.

Bezos added $10.2 billion to his net worth in the past year. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates remains the world's richest person with an estimated net worth of $86 billion.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who added $11.4 billion to his fortune in the past year for a total net worth of $61.4 billion, is the fifth-richest person in the world.
