March 30 (UPI) -- The governor of Mexico's Colima state announced that at least 10 bodies were found in a mass grave near the town of Queseria.

Gov. José Ignacio Peralta Sánchez said on Wednesday that the bodies, found on the border between the states of Colima and Jalisco, west of Mexico City near the Pacific coast, are in advanced stages of decomposition. He said the offices of the Colima and Jalisco state attorneys general will collaborate in exhuming the bodies.

"There is a very complex finding in the vicinity, in the border area between Jalisco and Colima. There are several bodies and some of them are in a very advanced state of decomposition, even some already practically skeletons, and, well, we'll have to do the research with respect," Peralta Sánchez told reporters.

Peralta Sánchez said that though it is unclear in which state jurisdiction the bodies were found, authorities need to establish not only in which state the bodies were recovered, but where the killings were committed.

"We are talking about a border issue, there is debate. There is no clarity whether they are in Jalisco or in Colima, but we must see not only where they were found, but where the crimes were committed, where the acts were done and all this given to us through the corresponding investigations," Peralta Sánchez said.

The discovery of the bodies on the border between Colima and Jalisco comes after the attorney general for the state of Veracruz, on Mexico's Atlantic coast, said officials found 47 skulls along with other body parts in several mass graves.
