March 14 (UPI) -- South Korea may be planning a transportation hub for a better tomorrow, when the two Koreas are unified and trains bound for Pyongyang depart from the main intercity railroad station in Seoul. A senior official with South Korea's ministry of land, infrastructure and transport said Wednesday that any train bound for North Korea "must go through Seoul Station," Yonhap reported.

The transportation hub already connects the South Korean capital with other major cities – but is expected to undergo an expansion. Space in the station will be separately reserved for a future possible North Korea train route, according to the report.
"We are moving in the line of providing space underground at Seoul Station for a train that connects to North Korea," the unidentified official said.
The railroad to the North could also connect to the Eurasian Land Bridge that connects to Russia and China.
The transportation ministry and the office of Ahn Ho-young, a lawmaker with the Minjoo Party of Korea, stated research has begun on the integrated development of Seoul Station.
Neither side, however, officially announced plans for a unification railroad.
Relations between Seoul and Pyongyang have deteriorated since North Korea conducted two nuclear tests in 2016.
A sixth nuclear test could be under preparation, with recent satellite images showing tunneling at North Korea's main nuclear site in Punggye-ri.
