Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will face a new trial amid allegations he bought off witnesses in his previous trial for engaging in child prostitution for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old girl.
Berlusconi, a four-time prime minister, was acquitted on appeal in the case in 2015, but prosecutors accused him of bribing witnesses with more than $10.7 million in cash, houses, vacations and other gifts, including to the girl in question. The billionaire businessman-turned-politician denied any wrongdoing. His lawyer said Berlusconi is being put on trial for his "generosity."
