TEHRAN, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- The Tehran Emergency Center said at least two people died and six were injured on Tuesday after a helicopter crashed into the artificial Chitgar Lake in Tehran.

The helicopter, which carried eight, belonged to the the Iranian Helicopter Support and Renewal Company, which is affiliated with Iran's state-owned Defense Industries Organization, state-run PressTV reported. The Chitgar Lake is a recreational lake in northwestern Tehran.

The helicopter crashed at about 11:40 a.m., the company said in a statement.

Tehran Emergency Center spokesman Hassan Abbasi said agency technicians and seven ambulances were dispatch to respond to the incident. Two of the victims died while on the way to the hospital, while the other six injured were admitted to hospitals in stable conditions.

Officials launched an investigation into the crash.
