MOSCOW, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Russia's Foreign Ministry on Friday said its embassies are working to win the release of a Russian citizen who may have been captured in Afghanistan by the Taliban.
On Thursday, a Pakistani Mi-17 military helicopter heading to Russia for repair and maintenance made an emergency landing in Afghanistan's Logar province, where crew members, including a Russian citizen identified as Sevastyanov, a navigator, were captured by the Taliban.
The Russian embassies in Pakistan and Afghanistan are working for the release the Russian citizen. The TASS Russian News Agency reports the other crew members are six retired Pakistani military personnel.
"Our embassies in Islamabad and Kabul are in close contact with the authorities of the host countries to induce them to adopt exhaustive measures for the Russian's liberation," Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement, adding that authorities are working to verify information about the incident.
