EgyptAir flight data recorder has been repaired

CAIRO, June 27 (UPI) -- The flight data recorder that was damaged in the EgyptAir plane that crashed into the Mediterranean Sea in May has repaired, Egyptian investigators say.

Once work on the cockpit voice recorder, also damaged in the crash, is completed, experts will be able to examine all the data and determine what happened to make Flight MS804 crash, killing all 66 people on board.

French prosecutors opened a preliminary investigation into manslaughter and have given their findings to judges for approval to launch a full probe. The plane, an Airbus A320, was manufactured in France.

The investigation will be considered an accident and not a act of terrorism, based on evidence gathered to this point, said Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office.

The pilots sent no distress call, and no militant group has claimed responsibility.
