Car bomb outside Benghazi hospital kills 5

BENGHAZI, Libya, June 25 (UPI) -- A car bomb exploded in front of the visitors' entrance at Benghazi's Jalaa Hospital, killing five people and wounding another 13.

Two of the victims were children and, like several adults, were passing by the hospital when the bomb detonated Friday. The wounded were being treated at the hospital.

On Thursday night, a grenade was thrown into the hospital's reception area. Hospital officials said it was the action of an individual with a grudge.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Libyan security official Walid al-Arfi blamed the attack on "terrorist" groups.

"Extremist groups the army is fighting in Benghazi were responsible for this car bombing given that the hospital treats injured army soldiers," he told Anadolu Agency.

Late last year, Libya's rival governments established a unity government to resolve the country's six-year political turmoil. An uprising led to the ouster and death of longtime strongman Moammar Gadhafi.
