Tropical Storm Danielle ready to hit eastern Mexico

VERACRUZ , Mexico, June 20 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Danielle was 100 miles north-northeast of Veracruz, Mexico, at 8 a.m. Monday morning and is expected to hit land Monday evening.

The storm is moving west toward the east coast of Mexico, bringing up to 15 inches of rain in some areas.

Danielle is the fourth named storm of the 2016 Atlantic Ocean hurricane season. It is expected to strengthen from its current maximum sustained winds of 40 mph before making landfall.

A tropical storm warning is in effect from Laguna Verde to Rio Panuco, Mexico.

Up to 10 inches of rain, with isolated amounts of 15 inches in higher terrain, are expected over Mexico's Veracruz, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, Hidalgo, and northern Puebla states. The rains could cause flash floods and mudslides before Tuesday morning, when it is anticipated the storm will be downgraded to an area of low pressure.

It is unlikely the storm will affect weather in the United States.
