KIEV, Ukraine, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Two Ukrainian soldiers were wounded when 84 shots were fired near Donetsk in the eastern part of the country, according to the Ukrainian government.

"Fighting over the past day, we've had no deaths, but two of our soldiers were wounded," said Alexander Motuzyanik, Ukrainian presidential administration spokesman for the military operation to reporters at a press conference on Wednesday, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told students at the National Defense University in Kiev that the resumption of full-scale hostilities in the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine is quite probable.

"Even under the most optimistic scenario in the Donbas, with a long-term truce, the military threat from the east will remain relevant in the long term and in the short term", Poroshenko said in a speech, as reported by the online newspaper Ukrayinska Pravda.
