Witnesses said they heard gunshots in the area, which has been closed off by police, according to the BBC.
Local media reports suggested the incident may have been an attempted robbery gone wrong.
Roubaix is located near the border with Belgium, which has been on high alert after at least 130 people were killed during Nov. 13 terrorist attacks in Paris.
