MUWAQQAR, Jordan, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Two U.S. contractors and one South African were shot to death Monday in a police training center cafeteria in Muwaqqar, Jordan, U.S. defense officials said.

The unidentified victims died when a lone shooter, a Jordanian police officer, opened fire at the center, south of Amman, a Jordanian security source said. It remains unknown what caused the assault, but the attacker was immediately shot and killed.

The training center is funded by the United States and used to train Iraqi police.

Four others -- two Americans and two Jordanians -- were injured in the incident.

The U.S. embassy in Amman said it received reports of a "security incident at the facility" and was in contact with local authorities, NBC News reported.
