Airstrike kills at least 30 at Yemeni wedding party

SANAA, Yemen, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- An airstrike on a house in Yemen killed at least 30 people attending a wedding celebration, the second such attack to kill civilians within days.

The attack was conducted on the home of Muhammed al-Sanabani. Three of his sons were to be married in a joint ceremony, and one of the sons was killed, cousin Tawfiq al-Sanabani told The New York Times.

He said the airstrike occurred as the brides arrived at the residence.

Saudi-led coalition forces, engaged in fighting the country's Houthi rebels, said there were no ongoing operations in Yemen's southwestern Dhamar province, where the incident occurred Wednesday.

Coalition warplanes killed at least 131 people on Sept. 28 in a similar bombing of wedding tents, the rebel-controlled Saba news agency said.

"Not every explosion that takes place in Yemen is as airstrike - it could be a missile, car bomb, or weapons cache," coalition spokesman Ahmed Asseri said.

The coalition, loyal to Yemen's deposed president, is involved in helping pro-government troops fight Houthi rebels across Yemen. The military offensive, begun in March, has killed more than 2,300 civilians, largely by airstrikes, human rights groups claim
