VATICAN CITY, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Pope Francis will return to North America early next year to visit Mexico, a Vatican official said Tuesday.

A Vatican spokesman announced the trip to a Mexican news outlet, saying the pontiff will visit Mexico City in the early part of 2016. The details of the trip have not yet been disclosed, but the representative said they should come in November.

Televisa, Latin America's largest TV network, reported that Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told correspondent Valentina Alazraki about the potential visit Tuesday.

Though the full agenda is not yet known, the pope's representative said the visit will include a trip to Mexico City's Basilica of Guadalupe.

The trip will be Pope Francis' first to Mexico and his second to North America. The pontiff visited Cuba and the United States in September.
