No additional details were given regarding the identity or nationality of the the soldier. Khaama Press reported NATO does not typically disclose such information, instead deferring to the soldier's home country.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on Twitter.

The departure of most foreign forces from Afghanistan in 2014 has left Afghan forces to deal with the majority of the violence from Taliban militants.

Nine NATO soldiers, including one foreigner and eight U.S. soldiers, have been killed in 2015.

Tuesday's death comes one month after two men dressed in Afghan national security force uniforms attacked NATO soldiers in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan. The attack killed two NATO soldiers.
