Russian President Putin to visit China on Sept. 2

MOSCOW, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit China on Sept. 2 for a two-day visit at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Russian presidential press service announced.

Putin will attend celebrations dedicated to the 70th anniversary of China over Japan, as well as the victory in World War II.

The Chinese and Russian heads of state plan to hold negotiations on energy, among other issues. They are slated to sign more than 20 bilateral documents, which will implement agreements reached during Xi's visit to Russia in May, and in July at the BRICS Summit in Ufa, TASS and Interfax reported.

Cooperation between the two countries has "already become a powerful stabilizing factor of security in the world," said Russia's ambassador to China, Andrey Denisov. "There is no doubt that the Russian head's visit will give an additional impulse to our strategic cooperation in various areas."

The agreements to be signed will also include investment, finance and transportation matters, according to the ambassador.

"We are grateful to the Chinese partners for their understanding of our position on the Ukrainian issue, and we appreciate the firm rejection by the Chinese side of anti-Russia sanctions," Denisov said.

Russia and China are concluding joint naval and air defense exercises in in the waters off the Clerk Cape and the Sea of Japan. The military exercises, involving more than 20 ships from the Russian Navy and the People's Liberation Army (PLAN), included a joint amphibious assault drill.

On Thursday, Russia delivered nine Ka-32A11BC helicopters to China.

"These helicopters will be operated by the city of Ordos' Main Directorate of Public Security, Shanghai Public Security Directorate, and a number of commercial companies. China's State Oceanic Administration also operates the Ka-32A11BC," said Russian Helicopters Chief Executive Alexander Mikheev. These helicopters are designed to carry out specialized search and rescue operations and are used in firefighting missions.
