LONDON, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- For the first time since it was attacked in November 2011, the British embassy in Iran's capital will reopen for business this weekend, officials said.

British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond will formally reopen the embassy in Tehran on Sunday, The Guardian reported Thursday. He will be joined by British business leaders and the Foreign Office political director -- who negotiated for Britain in the talks for the Iran nuclear agreement.

The embassy closed five years ago after a mob of protesters attacked the complex.

The Iranian embassy in London has also been shuttered for five years. Following the attack on the embassy in Tehran, British officials expelled all Iranian embassy staff.

The trip to Iran will be the first by Britain's foreign secretary in 12 years.

The Guardian reported that the British embassy in Iran has been repaired and restored since it was raided and ransacked in 2011.

It is not yet known who the new British ambassador to Iran will be. Officials said they have already chosen the ambassador, but not yet announced who will occupy the post.
