Archbishop Tutu released from hospital

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Archbishop emeritus Desmond Tutu was released from a Cape Town, South Africa hospital Tuesday after a three-week stay for a recurring infection.

The 1984 Nobel Peace Prize laureate was discharged after a second hospital stay this year for complications pertinent to 18 years of prostate cancer treatment, his daughter, Rev. Canon Mpho Tutu said.

A statement from his foundation said Tutu, 83, was pleased with the "first-class" treatment he received, but he told South African Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi that "most South Africans did not have access to decent health care."

While Tutu refrains from travel, he remains an outspoken commentator on human rights and equality. He earned the Nobel Prize for his opposition to South Africa's apartheid policy.
