MONTREAL, July 29 (UPI) -- A British Airways plane bound for London from Las Vegas was diverted Wednesday to Montreal because of a reported bomb threat.

Flight BA274, with 312 passengers and 16 crew members aboard, landed safely at Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport early Wednesday morning.

Local police searched the plane and Ewen Sommerville, whose parents were aboard the plane, sent the social media message, "They were told [us] it was [a] suspect device and they were diverted to Montreal, landed, evacuated, then plane was searched. Been told it's all calm."

A Montreal Police spokesman said it was advised of an emergency aboard the plane before the pilot sought permission to divert the flight and land in Montreal. The nature of the emergency was not specified.

A British Airways spokeswoman said the passengers have been offered hotel rooms in Montreal and bookings on other flights to London.

No injuries have been reported.
