Light plane crash in Tokyo residential area kills three, burns homes

TOKYO, July 26 (UPI) -- A small airplane crashed into a residential area of Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday, killing at least three people, injuring two and setting several houses on fire.

The crash happened in the Fujimicho area of Tokyo's Chofu district at about 11 a.m. The plane crashed shortly after take-off from the Chofu Airport as it was traveling to Tokyo's Izu-Oshima island, according to NHK World.

At least three houses and two cars were set ablaze. One of the houses was completely destroyed.

The plane was carrying five people. Two men were killed in the plane and a woman was killed inside one of the damaged houses. An investigation into the crash has been launched.
