New photos show the people of Nepal dealing with the rubble from the earthquakes

KATHMANDU, Nepal, April 26 (UPI) -- New photos show the people of Nepal dealing with the rubble from a major earthquake and an aftershock that followed.

A 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday, followed by a 6.7-magnitude aftershock on Sunday, caused streets to crack and buildings to collapse. Several historic landmarks were destroyed.

So far, at least 2,500 people are dead from the earthquakes. The chief of privacy for Google's Google X facility, Dan Fredinburg, is one of the dead. He was killed by an avalanche on Mount Everest that was caused by the quakes. Several avalanches have been reported since the quakes occurred.

India, China, the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries have begun efforts to provide aid to the country in the wake of the earthquakes.
