VICTORIA, Australia, April 7 (UPI) -- Luke Shambrook went missing Friday during a camping trip his family took to Lake Eildon in Victoria.
Shambrook, 11, was found alive on Tuesday by a police helicopter that spotted him in a bush from above. The boy, who is diagnosed with autism, was taken to the hospital for hypothermia and did not appear to have any injuries.
Search teams first found the boy's black beanie on Monday. Police and volunteers scoured the grounds and waterways by foot and air.
Acting Sergeant of Victoria Police, Brad Pascoe spotted a "flash of something" while searching the area by helicopter two miles away from the family's campsite at Candlebark Campground in the Fraser National Park. That "flash of something" turned out to be the missing boy.
"It wasn't much but it was enough to make me get the guys to turn the aircraft around. We were able to train the camera in and confirm it was Luke. We were just absolutely over the moon," Pascoe told ABC News.
Victoria Police posted a video on Instagram capturing the moment rescuers reached Shambrook.
10 News reporter, Trent Denn, tweeted a photograph of the adolescent reuniting with his family.
