Arrests made in shooting death of Russian opposition leader Nemtsov

MOSCOW, March 7 (UPI) -- Two men have been arrested in the shooting death of Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, the head of Russia's Federal Security Service said.

Anzor Gubashev and Zaur Dadayev are accused of gunning down Nemtsov steps from the Kremlin on Feb. 27. The two men are from the Caucasus region, known for unrest and crime.

Alexander Bortnikov, head of the security service, did not give further information, including a possible motive.

Nemtsov, the country's former deputy prime minister, was a central figure in Russia's opposition movement. Known for staunch opposition of the Kremlin, he was arrested several times for speaking against the government and President Vladimir Putin.
