MOSCOW, March 6 (UPI) -- Prominent Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, was released from a Moscow jail early Friday, 15 days after he was arrested for handing out leaflets promoting an anti-government rally and a week after fellow opposition leader, Boris Nemtsov, was gunned down.

Leaving the detention center, Navalny, 38, pledged to continue the work despite the violence. He reiterated his thoughts that Kremlin was behind Nemtsov's death. Navalny asked to be released to attend Nemtsov's funeral Tuesday, but his request was denied.

"We won't reduce our efforts; we won't step back," Navalny told the BBC. "That terrorist act didn't achieve its aim; it didn't frighten anyone."

Navalny was arrested Feb. 15 for handing out pamphlets about a March 1 opposition rally. That rally tuned into a memorial march for Nemtsov.
