Nemtsov was shot in the back with a pistol Friday night while walking on a bridge near the Kremlin. He was a former deputy prime minister under former Russian President Boris Yeltsin and a sharp critic of President Vladimir Putin.

The getaway car sought in connection to Nemtsov's murder belongs to a company that provides services to the Russian Finance Ministry and other agencies, according to the ministry. Media outlets originally reported that the getaway car belonged to the Finance Ministry.

"The Ford car we are talking about does not belong to the Finance Ministry," the ministry told TASS. "This is a vehicle of an in-house security service, an independent [federal state unitary enterprise] providing services to the Finance Ministry, Goznak and other bodies."
