Iran may cooperate with Google to bring more Internet services to the country

TEHRAN, March 1 (UPI) -- Iran's deputy minister, Nasrollah Jahangard, said Sunday that the country may soon cooperate with Google to bring a version of the service to the country.

It may not be the same version of Google used in the United States and many other parts of the world, but rather a version that adheres to "Iran's cultural conditions." That could mean certain things could be removed from Iranian Google searches.

"Iran will of course not interfere in the services of the companies but we want what they present in the Iranian market to be in line with Iranian laws," Jahangard told Fars News Agency.

"We are ready to provide Google or any other company with Iran's possibilities and facilities for service providing to the region," he added.

Jahangard mentioned Internet corporations from outside the United States are also in talks with Iran about improving its Internet services. He says Iran is willing to work with other American Internet companies besides Google.
