Lost copy of the Magna Carta discovered in scrapbook, possibly worth $15 million

SANDWICH, England, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- A lost copy of the Magna Carta from the year 1300 has been discovered inside a Victorian scrapbook, and it could be worth as much as $15 million.

Professor Nicholas Vincent, a medieval specialist, claimed the newly discovered version of the text is worth around £10 million, or over $15 million, reported the BBC. It is ripped and roughly a third of it is missing, but it is easily identifiable as a copy of the Magna Carta.

Dr. Mark Bateson, an archivist, was asked to look for another charter from the town of Sandwich at the Kent County Council archives and discovered the lost copy.

It is believed that the discovery of this copy of the Magna Carta proves there are many more undiscovered copies. There are 24 known copies at this time.

The Sandwich copy is expected to stay in the town.
