DHAKA, Bangladesh, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Over a dozen people were killed Saturday when a fire consumed a plastic factory in the capital of Bangladesh.

Firefighters are searching through the remains of the multistory Nasim Plastic building in Mirpur, a suburb of Dhaka, after dousing flames that had consumed the building. Officials say a faulty boiler or gas cylinder may be to blame.

At least 13 people were killed and scores injured in the fire. Officials say there may be more bodies beneath the debris.

The fire represents the latest industrial disaster in Bangladesh after a series of fatal incidents throughout the years. At least seven people were killed in a May 2013 clothing factory fire that occurred in the same suburb of Bangladesh's capital, and nine people died the following October in a factory fire in the town of Gazipur.

In April of the same year a factory collapsed in Savar, killing over 1,000 people. The deadliest factory fire in Bangladesh's history occurred in 2012 at a garment factory outside of Dhaka, where a blaze killed 112 workers and resulted in prison time for the owners of the building.
